Michelle Joyner Communications Director National Military Family Association
Presentation Title: Brandraising Online: One Organization, Many Channels
Michelle Joyner joined the National Military Family Association in November 2003 as deputy director, government relations before being promoted to director, public relations in September 2004. As the wife of a retired Navy Chief, daughter of a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, and sister to an Army soldier; Michelle is intimately familiar with the challenges that face military families. She is a passionate advocate for military families and works to shed light on the challenges and struggles that demand the attention and support of the American public to implement or find solutions. Michelle has worked with various federal and state officials on the issue of spouse employment and has testified before the Virginia State Assembly regarding unemployment compensation for military spouses. In her role as Communications Director, she marries her background in marketing with the experience gained through her work in government relations.
Before joining the National Military Family Association, Michelle spent several years working as a marketing communications specialist in both the publishing and medical device industries. Michelle earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Ohio University and her MBA from the University of California, Riverside. She has lived with her family in Texas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Germany, Ohio, Virginia, and California. She currently resides in Stafford, Virginia with her husband and two sons.
