The 9th Annual Bridge to Integrated Marketing & Fundraising Conference

The 9th Annual Bridge to Integrated Marketing & Fundraising Conference recently held at the Gaylord National Hotel in National Harbor, MD was a resounding success. Reaching a record number of over 1700 registrants, the conference was sold out by noon on the first day. For two days, the over 70 educational sessions were filled to standing room only and the Solutions Showcase was a constant hub of activity.
Thursday's opening keynote offered a provocative presentation by Steve Nardizzi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wounded Warrior Project. He drove home that ratings systems by groups like Charity Navigator and Charity Watch are at best "horribly ineffective and misinformed" and at worst, "outright misleading the public." Nardizzi encouraged organizations to make a choice choose to invest in your organization's fundraising; make an impact serving your mission rather than worrying about whether your organization receives 3 or 4 stars from the charity evaluators. Nardizzi's presentation received a standing ovation from the more than 1200 attendees in the room.
The second morning keynote Dr. Janet Lapp, rated by Toastmasters International as one of the top three speakers worldwide, delivered a presentation with humor, compassion and insight that had people on their feet at the end. Dr. Lapp urged individual fundraisers to know what drives them and to let go of anything holding them back.
Craig Kielburger, co-founder of Free the Children and the Conference's closing keynote presenter, told the inspiring story of how at 12 years old he was impacted by the death of Pakistani boy of the same age who was murdered because he fought against child labor. Kielburger showed how one person can indeed make a difference and shared wisdom he received from Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Mother Theresa. With Craig's final thank you, once more the audience rose to acknowledge his impact.
