Perhaps you’re wondering whether to bring your family or what to do to enjoy DC after the conference. Here are some suggestions of the events around town

  • All of the Smithsonian Institution facilities offer FREE admission including art galleries, museums, exhibits, etc. It also includes the new Air & Space Museum Hangar near Dulles Airport which holds the space shuttle, the SR71 Blackbird, and many more planes and space vehicles.
  • Take the water taxi from the Gaylord Hotel (Conference HQ) directly to George Washington’s Mt. Vernon Estate & Gardens. See the fabulous new Reynolds Museum and Education Center and the Ford Orientation Center including 25 new theaters and galleries and more than 500 original artifacts that tell the detailed story of George Washington's life.
  • Visit the Newseum at 555 Pennsylvania Ave. NW (888-639-7386) with multiple exciting exhibits including:
    • G-Men and Journalists: Top News Stories of the FBI's First Century - featuring artifacts and photos of the relationship between the FBI and the news media.
    •  Manhunt: Chasing Lincoln's Killer - featuring Lincoln-related artifacts including a playbill from "Our American Cousin," the performance during which Lincoln was shot.
  • Visit the newly reopened and refurbished Ford’s Theater and watch One Destiny or Road from Appomattox and then join Detective McDevitt to revisit and reexamine the sites and clues separating fact from fiction in a first-hand look at the investigation into the Lincoln Assassination Conspiracy and the events of April 14-15, 1865.
