Leigh Kessler – “Ladies & Gentleman, Please Welcome to the Stage…” What Stand-Up Comedy Can Teach us About Creating Engaging Online Donor Experiences.

Leigh looks at storytelling ideas from a new perspective — through the prism of stand-up comedy.

There are certain fundamentals that the best comedians have to learn that every nonprofit needs to know too — what makes you different, how to find your voice, how to grab people’s attention with your story, and how to communicate in a way that connects with people, across any channel — in person, on paper, or digitally.

In this session, originally presented at the Bridge Conference in 2016 and hosted by Leigh Kessler, Vice President of Marketing at CharityEngine and a former nationally touring stand-up comic and TV personality, we’ll step outside the nonprofit space and inside the world of stand-up comedy, highlighting the journey that stand-up comedians go to find their voice, hone their craft, engage audiences, navigate different audiences, and tell their story so that people want to hear more of their material. We’ll then apply those principles to the world of online fundraising and marketing and look at nonprofits who do it with great success through their website experience.
